Before heading to the city this summer for the NYU String Quartet Workshop and Bargemusic, the Amphion Quartet will first arrive at the Caramoor Festival in Westchester on July 19.

Amphion String Quartet is composed of violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist Mihai Marica.

The four first joined together for a performance at Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music in February 2009. Since then, they have joined as the Amphion String Quartet and won the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Competition and are the current Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence.

Most recently they have won the 2012 Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant in New York; First Prize at the Hugo Kauder String Quartet Competition in New Haven, Conn.; and First Prize in the Piano and Strings category as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2010 Plowman Chamber Music Competition held in Columbia, Mo.

The July 19 performance will include works by Schubert, Beethoven and the world premiere of Yevgeniy Sharlat’s Quartet No. 2, which was commissioned by Caramoor for its project “A String Quartet Library for the 21st Century.”
