Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation (lefse)
Having generated a summer long buzz with his first two free MP3 releases, Trevor Powers aka Youth Lagoon has hastily capitalised with this album. Thankfully, the promise of his earlier releases is sustained for the duration, with the utter charm of his bedroom dream pop enduring. Sure enough the previously available ‘July’ still stands out in its soaring magnificence, but the likes of ‘Afternoon’ and ‘Posters’ confirm that sometimes production limitations can be the making of an album. Like every great release of its genre, it engenders a kind of blissful wistfulness, which is no mean feat for a 22-year-old’s first record.
