“You and me in simplicity”. This lyric taken from gorgeous mid-album track ‘South Carolina’ says it all about Tennis’s debut. With simple infectious songwriting, backed by instantly recognisable Spector-indebted melodies, this isn’t one for lovers of originality, but if you’re going to ape something, make a good job of it.

Along with the likes of Best Coast and Magic Kids, there seems to be a glut of new US bands doing just that. Charting the nautical journey Tennis made up the east coast of the US, Cape Dory never diverges from the three-minute indie pop blueprint, but the splendour of their coastal tales make this as morale boosting as a day at the beach.
