Shad - TSOL (Black Box/Decon)

If Shad completely missed your radar, then thank Black Box Recordings for bringing him to your attention. Delivered in a laid-back drawl reminiscent of early Kanye West but light-years away from his shallow content, Shad makes intelligent use of choice cuts to provide a deep, thought-provoking, and honest account of life in “the hood”. His MySpace features the unique self-description “Hip Hop/Melodramatic Popular Song/Minimalist”, which doesn’t quite do justice to this remarkable talent. Method Man samples, spiritual rap, and soliloquies on virtue all interweave here, to bring forth the outstanding hip hop album of 2010. It’s about time – the year’s nearly over.
