This charming collection is from a book of lute music belonging to Lady Margaret Wemyss, a 16th century Lady on the outskirts of the royal Scottish court. It is played beautifully by Martin Eastwell on a wonderful sounding 12 course lute. Lost until the 1980s, the book was rediscovered in a collection made to the National Library of Scotland. It contains 91 pieces, transcribed by the 12-year-old Lady Margaret; the 45 represented here comprise mainly Scottish and French tunes. This is a fascinating insight into the musical tastes that surrounded the Scottish courts at that time and is a wonderfully soothing antidote to modern hectic living.
