This release is controversial among purist Mods and Northern Soulers for posing as newly bringing old tunes back, its 40s and 50s vintage soul sounds having been championed by unacknowledged DJs in the clubs of Manchester and beyond for the past decade. It’s nevertheless a comfort, signifying as it does the survival of taste and depth on the dance scene. Keb and Little Edith, who share a first love of this classic genre with Paul Weller no less, just can’t do any wrong as they include those awesome unsung masters of musical timing, the Mariners, doing the just totally perfect, early wall-of-sound classic, ‘Zindy Lou’.
