To sample, listen to the opening of the first and second movements, the latter with a beautiful melody introduced by the woodwinds then taken up by the soloist. This generously filled CD also includes six of the most popular suites, including fine performances of ‘Karelia’, ‘Finlandia’ and ‘The Swan of Tuonola’ all reflecting Sibelius’s love of his nation, people and countryside.
