Another year, another release from Bradford Cox. Not satisfied with conquering hearts and minds with his band Deerhunter, Cox continues to churn out releases as Atlas Sound.

Parallax airs more of the unique and impenetrable machinations of Cox’s brain, with lyrical gems such as “These ancient technologies strengthen my bones” never far away. Occasional chinks of indie pop filter through with ‘Mona Lisa’ being among the most straightforward songs Cox has ever recorded.

For every ‘Mona Lisa’, though, there is a ‘Modern Aquatic Nightsongs’, a fragment of a delightfully disturbed musical imagination. Not the best Atlas Sound release but still one Cox fans will treasure.
