ST. LOUIS—The Shen Yun Performing Arts Company performed at the Bezemes Family Theater, on Saturday evening. Mr. Collins, an administrator with the federal government and his wife Paula, who works in telecommunications, attended the final Shen Yun show on Feb. 13.

Mr. Collins bought the tickets as a Valentine present to surprise his wife. The first words she said were, “I love it. It’s really great, I am enjoying it very much.”

Mrs. Collins observed the expression of the performers. She said, “I enjoy watching their faces. There is one young boy that looks like he really enjoys what he is doing. He likes being there, and it just makes me happy to watch him. But they are all very good. I really enjoyed it.”

Not only the emotion, but the skill of the dancers pleased her. She said, “I really like watching the dancing. They are so graceful.”

Members of the audience mentioned the dancers’ costumes, with their bright, clear, colors, while coming out into the foyer.

Mrs. Collins was no exception, “I like the colors. They are beautiful.” The backdrops and the clothes work together to create a palette for each performance. Mrs. Collins liked the costumes themselves, “They are very beautiful.”

The projected backdrop appealed to her. At times it showed scenes and landscapes from China.

“I think the backdrop is very interesting, because it gives you the sense of actually being in China, and I want to go, because my daughter-in-law is Chinese, from Hong Kong.” She said she loves her beautiful daughter in law. She had always wanted a daughter and now has one. Though the performance is all about Chinese culture, the company is based in New York, and the younger artists are predominantly Western-born Chinese. The show has not yet performed in China.

Mr. Collins also wanted to share his thoughts about the show, “It is magnificent, it’s not a big enough word I don’t think. It’s really mind blowing.” He laughed pleasantly.

Like his wife, he was impressed with the costumes, “I think the costumes are just out of this world, all of them. I like them all.”

The whole show pleased him, “I just really enjoyed the whole thing.”

Mrs. Collins responds emotionally to music. The orchestra and the singing delighted her. She said,
“I enjoyed the music, music moves me more.”

Both were glad that they attended the show and he said, “It is a very, very nice show,” and his Valentine date agreed, “I have enjoyed it very much.”
