VANCOUVER, British Columbia—As Shen Yun Performing Arts continues its seven-show run at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver audiences are showing their appreciation of the unique cultural show.

Ms. Clavell, an actress who has appeared in over 30 films and TV shows, was impressed by the show overall and the calibre of the performers.

“I think it’s really beautifully done. The costumes are fantastic, the performances are really solid, as are all the diferent aspects, from the singing to the musical instruments to all of the dancing,” she said.

Classical Chinese dance is the centrepiece of the Shen Yun show and an integral part of Chinese traditional culture. It is known for its expressiveness as well as its training in strength and flexibility.

Ms. Clavell said the dance choreography was “beautiful, on-time, very precise, and lovely to see.”

The Shen Yun production draws from China’s 5,000-year history, depicting myths and legends from the time of the Yellow Emperor to the present day.

“I think [the stories] are presented really well. For each single scene that they’re doing its pretty much all-encompassed,” she said in an interview during the intermission.

Mr. Wills, a real estate investor who attended the Sunday matinee with Ms. Clavell, said he thought the show was “really beautiful. It’s well put together. We’re both enjoying it.”

He especially liked the Shen Yun live orchestra, unusual in that it combines Chinese and Western instruments. All the compositions are original and created to complement each dance.

“The music’s really nice, fits in well, and has a very grand feeling. I like it. It’s obviuosly a huge integral part of the show,” said Mr. Wills.

Shen Yun Performing Arts will present four more shows in Vancouver before going on to Calgary, Edmonton, and Regina.
