MISSISSAUGA, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts staged a surprisingly unique show at Living Arts Centre on Saturday night, according to television producer Kim Mcllwaine.

“It was absolutely fabulous. Incredibly educational on the Chinese culture,” she said after attending the sold-out performance.

“The dance was fascinating, incredibly unique. I’ve never seen anything like it actually. I’m stressing the unique, because as I say I really haven’t seen anything like it.”

Ms. Mcllwaine has worked for Home and Garden Television as a segment producer for Sue Warden’s CraftScapes, a show about simple and beautiful craft ideas from some of Canada most talented artisans.

“It’s nice the way that the show came together. There were the singers, and there was the musical element, and there were also the dancers, who were phenomenal,” said Ms. Mcllwaine.

“The costumes were fabulous. I loved the colours, they were so bright and I really found it very interesting ... It was quite an experience. There were moments when it was almost as if they were floating across the floor with the small step movements—that was so incredibly interesting. I just found the entire experience was really something that I will talk about for some time to come.”

Ms. Mcllwaine said she also liked the way the fans and the costumes, some with long, flowing sleeves, were used in some of the dances.

“I loved the backgrounds,” she added. Shen Yun makes use of an innovative animated backdrop that interacts with the performers on the stage.

“It was just really an unique, fascinating show and I would highly recommend it.”

One dance that stood out for her in particular was Fairies of the Clouds.

“I found that was just so beautiful, it really was, very, very beautiful.”
