A mother in Texas posted a photo of her son reciting the Pledge of Allegiance a few weeks ago.

The photo went viral, generating more than 2 million views on Facebook.

Heather Nelson, Royce Thompson’s mother, wrote on her page that she dropped her son off at school in Santa Fe, Texas. As he approached the door, he paused.

“I couldn’t really tell what he was doing and I was saying ‘Royce..go..go’ as kids walked around him,” Nelson wrote on Facebook. “Well he didn’t budge and I thought what is this child doing?”

A police officer approached her and told her.

“I couldn’t believe that he acknowledged that that was a moment of, you know, you need to stop do the pledge and he just did,” officer Cibby Moore told station Fox26. “He just ignored all the kids around him and kept doing it. And it was awesome.”

Nelson then took a photo.

“I was so proud that he stopped when the Pledge of Allegiance came and stood his ground and did not move as the other kids were going in and then took time out and prayed and did not even care or think twice about it,” the mother wrote. “This is such a beautiful picture.”
