According to the competition’s judges, the overall quality of the submissions received this time is high. Both the techniques and the artistic concepts evident in the entries have reached quite a high level.

The first-prize winners in the three categories are Jiang Yuyou from Taiwan, for News and On-the-Spot Reports; Zhen Feng Jia from New Zealand, for Life in Society; and Jiang Cunxiong from Taiwan, for Landscapes.

The competition’s committee of judges is composed of six well-known photographers, painters, and photo editors. The committee received 123,000 submissions by 3,350 participants from 89 countries.

In each of the three categories, there is one First Prize, two Second Prizes, and four Third Prizes, and ten awards given for excellence.

According to Mr. Dai Bing, judging chairman for the competition, the submissions received by the committee are approaching the style of pure compassion and pure beauty required by the committee.

The committee said that the 2009 International Photography Competition is the Second Annual Epoch International Photography Competition. It is looking for photographers to submit work based on actual events that reflect humanity, social conditions, and the natural environment, portrayed in a manner that expresses the spirit of justice, kindness, and beauty.

The goal is to revive the ideas and forms of traditional aesthetics. These will form the basis for evaluating the submitted photography.

“If you look carefully at the works that received awards, you’ll find that many of them are simple, folk style, and naturally enriched with living atmosphere. After you look at all the selected works, you’ll feel that they are very simple, natural, and humane. You’ll have the feeling of going back to your true self,” Mr. Dai said.
