Watch Man Who Portrayed Ronald McDonald Dish Advice on Healthy Eating

Joe Maggard, who dressed up as McDonald’s official mascot from 1995 to 2007, tells us that the character isn’t just about promoting burgers and fries. “It’s also about teaching—teaching people about healthy choices,” he says.

Maggard is officially retired, but he still dons the mascot’s clothing and makeup, and he also shares that he knows “childhood obesity is a pandemic,” but he’s down to encourage kids to make “healthy choices.” 

How some McDonald’s executives and shareholders who tend to want to see sales increasing each quarter—especially because profits are tanking these days—feel about his revelations remains to be seen.
