An extreme fire danger rating is in place for the southwest region of Victoria until Monday night, March 11, with emergency crews on high alert.

The highest temperature was recorded in northern NSW at Brewon, which reached 39.6C on Feb. 5.

Perth Airport had climbed to 42.7C before midday on Feb. 2 and the city reached 40.4.
