We all have a butterfly in our throat. It is the thyroid gland that rests between the protruding cartilage at the anterior of the throat—referred to as “Adam’s apple”—and the bronchial tube.
As the largest endocrine gland in our body, the thyroid has the shape of a butterfly with its wings spread out and wrapped around the bronchial tube. It generates a hormone called thyroxine, storing it and secreting it into the bloodstream. Thyroxine is instrumental in promoting the metabolic processes of the body, such as metabolic speed, and temperature regulation.
