A 29-year-old mother who put her two young children in the trunk of her Corvette pleaded guilty on Thursday, according to local reports.

Jessica Reger of Hanover, Pennsylvania, was pulled over by Hanover Borough Police while she was driving her two-door car in July after they received a 911 call from a person who saw her place the children, aged 3 and 5, in the trunk.

The York Dispatch reported that after she pleaded guilty to child endangerment, Reger was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison. She also needs to take parent classes.

The driver of the car, Ilena Blackburn, 28, was also charged with recklessly endangering another person, The Associated Press reported. Reger was in the passenger seat.

Reger’s attorney, Korey Leslie, argued in court that the children weren’t placed in a trunk, but rather a “well,” the Dispatch reported. “To me, that’s just a matter of semantics, at the end of the day they weren’t in their car seats,” Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Buhite said.

“Corvettes don’t have trunks. Corvettes have wells in the back,” added Leslie, as reported by the York Daily Record. “The trunk issue has always been a sticking point for us.”

“I don’t think it makes a difference,” Buhite shot back, adding that the children were not wearing seat belts. “There are laws, and they’re supposed to be followed.”
