Charisa Coulter, one of the two last American missionaries still detained in Haiti was released from prison and allowed to fly back to the United States on Tuesday.

Five men and five women of an Idaho-based Baptist church were arrested at the border with the Dominican Republic, trying to bus 33 children out of Haiti without the proper permission after the devastating earthquake in January.

The group leader is still in the custody, but is expected to be released soon.

The arrest of 10 Americans coincided with Haiti’s invigorated attempts to prevent an increase in child trafficking following the quake. It turned out that many of the children the church wanted to adopt still had at least one living parent.

It was later clarified in the court hearing that the parents had voluntarily given up their children on the promise that their kids would receive education and care in the orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
