Law Firm Owner Finds Shen Yun Fascinating

NEW YORK—Javier Damien, who owns his own law firm, said he found Shen Yun Performing Arts “unbelievable” after seeing a performance at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in New York on April 26.

“It was great: the colors were unbelievable, the music was great, the dancing, the animation,” he said.

The digitally animated backdrop caught Mr. Damien’s attention—through state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun dancers appear to jump on and off the backdrop. It also brings the audience to places from Chinese history—Mongolian grasslands, ancient gardens, and more.

“I thought it was fascinating,” Mr. Damien said of the backdrop. “I really loved it.”

The New York-based Shen Yun presents orchestral music, classical Chinese dance, and Chinese ethnic and folk dance. Brilliantly colored costumes recreate China’s divinely inspired traditional culture, and dances are accompanied by an orchestra that combines classical Western instruments and traditional Chinese instruments, such as a gong, and the erhu, a two-stringed violin.

Mr. Damien said that the dancing was incredible, adding that he appreciated the athletic ability.

Shen Yun’s talented vocalists perform all-original compositions that are another feature of the cultural performance.

Mr. Damien said the last singer, soprano Ms. Haolan Geng, stood out. “Her voice was incredible,” he said.

“It is a very beautiful performance,” agreed Mrs. Allison Julius, who attended Shen Yun with her husband, Zachary Julius. Mrs. Julius is co-owner of a luxury lifestyle brand, Maison 24, with products sold online and at two exclusive fashion stores in Manhattan and Bridgehampton.

Mrs. Julius said her friends “should definitely see the show ... to experience some of the culture and dance and tradition.”

“The show is fantastic,” said Mr. Julius.
