De Blob 2 is the vibrant sequel to the 2008 Wii exclusive De Blob. This second game sees the return of Blob, a colourful voiceless character whose job it is to return colour to the world. De Blob 2’s gameplay is both simple and compelling, which leads the game to be a whole load of fun. Its simplicity, however, is also one of its biggest faults.

De Blob 2 is all about colour, and the painting of the world to overcome the political oppression of the sinister Comrade Black, who has drained the once bright Prisma City of all its beauty to a now grey and bland environment. The story is told through a series of vibrant cut scenes which are genuinely funny but with serious undertones for both adults and children to enjoy.

Re-painting the world is incredibly refreshing, and the funky music which plays throughout levels is wholly uplifting. Blob’s ability to soak up paint gives you the means to travel throughout the 12 levels repainting buildings and surfaces against the clock until the city is new and improved. The constant tutorials and unforgiving checkpoints can cause a hefty amount of frustration, however.

De Blob 2 is an enjoyable game from start to finish that brings feel-good music and bright presentation together in a great blend of gameplay, but sadly lets hand-holding tutorials and punishing checkpoint placements deter from adding a completely fresh coat of paint to the platforming genre.
