First time mothers who want an active and collaborative birth experience are more interested in midwife care and birth at home than women who expect to be passive in the birth process, according to a survey by a Columbia University fellow.

Ontario will be opening two birthing centres run by midwives, Premier Dalton McGuinty announced this week.
