Gov. Gavin Newsom and tribal leaders celebrated the dam demolitions to ‘bring the salmon home’ as work continues to restore former manmade lake beds.
The dam removal project is a key part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s strategy to save the state’s salmon after decades of pressure from the Yurok Tribe.
A number of fish and at least 10 deer have died in the removal process, part of the state’s plan to reintroduce salmon to its native habitat.
