LONDON—Faisal Shaukat, who runs an events management company, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at Eventim Apollo on the evening of April 20.

This was the second time he had seen Shen Yun. “Every time I watch the show, it’s better, and bigger, and more beautiful than the previous one,” Shaukat said.  “I’m always happy, and it’s really a joy to be part of such a performance.”
He gave his overall impression. “It’s definitely positive. I personally believe that the whole idea of the show is to revive the roots, the true culture of China,” he said.
“And everybody knows that this show is banned in China for various reasons. I really salute the production team, and everyone who are behind it, who has this courage to just try and give this new generation, the actual feeling of how the culture was. It’s always good to stay connected with the roots and revive that,” he said.
Shaukat said he liked the beautiful culture presented. “It’s beautiful. Shen Yun is like the beauty of the Divine, so it’s really beautiful. Obviously, you can’t describe the divine itself, but the way it’s being portrayed,” he said.

“I’m so amazed with the visuals that complement the whole performance. And it’s interesting that the visuals have some sort of virtual effect,” Shaukat said. “So you combine the real performances and they merge with the visual, which is something really interesting and very nice. It is very unique. It’s something like a cinematic experience; it’s very immersive cinema, you know, you become part of it.”

Shaukat was most impressed with the costumes. “Beautiful costumes in a performance. I love the colorful costumes. It’s so amazing. It’s so beautiful.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by leading Chinese artists and quickly became the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture.

“Yes. I think no matter where you live, which part of the world you live in, or which religion you believe in, what is natural to you, and whomever you believe in, that’s divine power. There is a source for that. So it could be anything, it could be anyone, but when you have that, that’s where you get the peace from,” he said.

He had praise and gratitude for the performers. “Congratulations, because they’ve been traveling a lot, I know.”

Shaukat said he follows Shen Yun on social media. “I understand that it’s not easy to manage and cope. Sometimes they do two shows a day, and that’s really something to ask, and hats off to them.”

“Congratulations, well done. I look forward to seeing the next performance either at the end of this year or the next year,” he said.
