Batman vs Superman could be set in the same universe as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
In an interview with ComicBookResources, the Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman vs Superman screenwriter David S. Goyer reviewed that he has had discussions with Chris Nolan about the possibility of setting the upcoming DC comic flick in the Dark Knight universe.
“And so Chris Nolan and I absolutely had discussions about that with regards to Superman or Batman and where he exists in the public consciousness and whether or not this was aligned with that or a betrayal of [the Dark Knight universe] or not,” Goyer said. “And sometimes you say, ‘Yeah, maybe this is different,’ and you go for it.”
Goyer, however, is rather tentative, adding, “sometimes you’re celebrated for and sometimes you’re not. And then sometimes you say no, this is the way it’s been and this is what we should do.”
“I mean, I will say that when you’re dealing with something that is a cultural touchstone I always think it’s important to look at what are the elements or themes that are the most sticky, that bubble to the surface again and again over the decades. And those are probably the ones you should pay attention to.”
Goyer also said in the interview that fan theory wise, he doesn’t “read everything that’s out there,” and instead is looking to do a Steve Jobs.
“(I)t’s like you don’t give the audience or the consumer what they want, you give them what they don’t even know they want.”
Moviepilot has speculated that Batman vs Superman (Man of Steel 2) will be set 7 years after The Dark Knight Rises, and features a 40 year-old Batman running a crime-fighting empire.
Batman vs Superman is speculated to hit cinemas April 28, 2016.
