The new Windows Start menu has been leaked.
German blog site WinFuture posted a couple of videos and screen shots of the revamped Start menu that will be reintroduced in Windows 9.
The leaked images and videos are believed to be from the Technical Preview of Build 9834 for Windows Threshold, which is expected to be released by the end of September.
The new Start menu mixes Microsoft modern apps together with apps that evoke a classic Windows Start Menu feel.
The modern and traditional apps are organized into two sections; the left panel holding the more traditional apps, while the right panel brings back the Live Tiles look.
Users can pin their apps from the Start menu onto the right panel, where they will expand automatically to become the now familiar Live Tiles.
These tiles can then be resized to give it more of a Windows 8 feel.
If Windows 9 users don’t like the tiles in the right panel, they can simply unpin them like how apps are pinned and unpinned to the shelf in Windows 7.
According to The Verge, there will also be an option for users to “use the Start menu instead of the Start screen.” It could possibly be enabled as a default setting, and “Microsoft may even remove the fullscreen Start screen altogether for desktop users in favor of a Start menu that expands.”
