Is it money, a promotion, or fame that satisfies you? The brief feeling of accomplishment you may feel at these times might seem like happiness, but actually, it’s not.

It’s caused by a hormone called dopamine, which pumps into our brain short shots of excitement. It’s the very same thrill we can feel after having a drink, gambling, or using drugs. Sounds dangerous, right?

But there is another happy hormone: oxytocin.  It leaves a warm fuzzy feeling that comes with spending quality time with your loved one, doing hard work, or just having a positive impact on someone’s life.

Seems like an age-old question finds its answer.

Have a look at this beautifully animated video by Panoply as a guide to happiness.
