Last week a former employee of a PRC Consulate in Canada decided to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The Wang Lijun affair had shaken to the core his former firm belief in the Party. He is not alone.

The former consular staff member had gained fame and wealth from his Party connections. During his term at the consulate, he had enthusiastically disseminated to Chinese communities the regime’s odious propaganda demonizing the spiritual practice of Falun Gong.

On Feb. 25, he approached Ms. Mao, who works for the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP in Toronto. Ms. Mao had once been this fellow’s colleague and had many times tried to tell him about what Falun Gong is and how the regime’s propaganda is wrong. He had always rebuffed her.

“I did not understand what you were doing before, and I even resented your behavior,” the former consular staff member said. “Now I have come to understand what you have been doing, and I support you.”

“You Falun Gong practitioners emphasize truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance,” he said. “I think you can tolerate other people if they made any mistakes before and will give them a chance to correct their mistakes.”

Like most Chinese, he had followed closely the story of how the former head of the public security bureau and first vice mayor of the province-level city of Chongqing, Wang Lijun, had attempted to defect at the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu on Feb. 6.

He read how Wang had been personally responsible for the killing of Falun Gong practitioners. In a speech Wang gave in 2006, Wang bragged about overseeing “thousands” of organ harvesting operations. Most of the organs for these operations come from Falun Gong practitioners detained because of their beliefs, according to investigators.

He also read about the corruption Wang discussed with the U.S. Consulate. The news website the Washington Free Beacon reported that two U.S. officials said that Wang provided the U.S. Consulate with information about corruption at the highest reaches of the CCP.

The man who had formerly spread propaganda was shocked and realized that he had all along believed in lies told by the CCP.

Ms. Mao’s former colleague published his statement withdrawing from the CCP and arranged for his entire family to renounce any affiliation with organizations associated with the Party.

‘Thought Provoking’

Other Chinese are reaching the same conclusion as this former consular employee.

The Quitting the CCP website received this statement on Feb. 20: “I am a director at a police station in China. I have come to understand that Falun Gong practitioners are all good people.

“It is indeed very wrong that the persecution of Falun Gong has continued for more than 10 years. We human beings should at least try to maintain our kindness. By doing so we are helping ourselves not to make a dead end of our lives.

“Now … the overall situation is changing. The fate of Wang Lijun is very thought-provoking. After I had a long conversation with a Falun Gong practitioner, I decided to withdraw from the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations.”

On Feb. 14, someone using the pseudonym “Bai Jinhua” wrote: “Wang Lijun’s attempted defection to the U.S. Consulate has helped me see … that the CCP is a liar party, a scoundrel party. I hereby announce that I withdraw from all the organizations affiliated with Chinese Communist Party, including the Young Pioneers and the Youth League.”

On Feb. 26, “HK Fan” wrote: “I was a Party member. In the past, I felt deeply that those in power were very corrupt. The Wang Lijun incident further revealed to us that this party is not at all a party that represents the interests of the people. I hereby announce that I withdraw from the Communist Party.”

On Feb. 11, a family of four submitted this statement: “After reading the reports about Wang Lijun and the Chongqing incident, we deeply feel that whatever the CCP says, it’s anything but the truth. We feel very regretful and also extremely ashamed for our ignorance. Therefore, we have decided to withdraw from the evil Party together.”

‘Much Easier’

Ms. Sun, a volunteer for the Quit the CCP Center, told New Tang Dynasty TV, the Wang Lijun incident has made persuading people to renounce affiliation with the Party much easier.

She recounted a recent conversation she had with someone in China.

“I asked him why is it that the high-level CCP officials wouldn’t turn to the ‘Party Mother’ when they were in danger? That’s because the CCP always offers some incentive when in need of your ability and takes your life when your task is over.

“Wang himself understands very well the CCP’s dark and evil nature. That’s why he went to the U.S. Consulate for protection, because he didn’t trust the Party.”

Her listener agreed and decided to make a statement renouncing affiliation with the Party.

So far, Quit the CCP Center has recorded the statements of 110 million Chinese renouncing the CCP.

The director of the New York City Quit the CCP Center, Yi Rong, was once a CCP diplomat. She said that a vice-ministerial level official defecting to the U.S. Consulate is an unprecedented scandal in the CCP’s history.

She believes the Wang Lijun incident has sent a warning to all CCP officials about the coming collapse of the Party and urges CCP officials to seize the moment. Her organization stands ready to record their statements.
