Vivian Schiller of NBC to Join Twitter as Head of News Partnerships

Vivian Schiller, current chief digital officer for NBC News, is joining Twitter.

Twitter announced the news on Thursday afternoon.

“We’re thrilled to announce @VivianSchiller is joining the team as Twitter’s new Head of News Partnerships,” it said, via Twitter. “She starts in January!

Schiller said she'll stay with NBC until the end of the year.

“Grateful to my beloved colleagues for 2+ great years,” she said via Twitter.

The new role is aimed at legitimizing Twitter as a news service, and in it Schiller will act as “a friendly liaison to publishing outlets,” according to AllThingsD, citing sources.

A description of the job said:

“You will be responsible for devising and executing the strategies that make Twitter indispensable to newsrooms and journalists, as well as an essential part of the operations and strategy of news organizations and TV news networks. You should have a strong vision for the broad potential of Twitter and news, while also being able to rigorously manage and scale the news team’s daily impact.

You will be also Twitter’s representative to the News industry. You will manage Twitter’s partnerships with newsrooms in the United States as well its relationships with journalists. You will be responsible for representing Twitter at industry events.”
