Flight attendants with US Airways voted to enact a strike, said union representatives Tuesday.
“We want to work for a successful airline—but the airline will never be successful when its frontline workers are hurting,” stated Roger Holmin and Deborah Volpe, presidents for the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) representing flight attendants with US Airways and America West, according to an AFA media release.
US Airways is holding talks with the bankrupt American Airlines about a possible merger, but so far two contracts offered to flight attendants have been voted down by the union this year, reported Reuters.
The airliner has around 6,700 flight attendants.
The representatives said that the “attendants are determined to do whatever it takes to get our long overdue contract.”
US Airways gave a statement to Reuters explaining that the flight attendants have not been released to strike, meaning that there will be no disruptions during this holiday travel season.
