Urban Outfitters, a popular U.S. clothing chain for teens and young adults, has drawn controversy over its flasks and shot glasses that are designed to look like prescription pill bottles and syringes.
San Antonio-based WOAI TV reported that Partnership at Drugfree.org initiated a campaign to have the pill bottle-inspired products pulled from the company’s shelves.
“We just feel that that message is just irresponsible,” Andrea Salazar, with the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, told the station. “We just think these products really put the health and safety of our youth at risk, and just normalizes the misuse and abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs,” she added.
KABC in Los Angeles said the products include “syringe shot shooters” and a pill bottle with a label for “Boozemin.”
“Prescribe yourself a small dose of pleasure. Syringe-shaped shot container - press down top to squirt out liquid. Fill it up with booze and let the healing begin!” reads the syringe glass label.
