Two Ways to Say “I’m Tired” In Chinese

Today we are going to look at how to say you are tired, in Chinese. The word lèi 累 is the most basic way to say you are tired, you can use this to express being physically tired or fatigued, and to some degree mentally tired or weary.

But there is another word, that is a bit more appropriate for describing feeling sleepy, and that is kùn 睏. The right side of the character means to be hard pressed, or surrounded, pinned down and the left side is the classical character for eye. These together in one character mean sleepy.
