Two Great White Sharks Spotted off Cape Cod

Great white sharks are not known to hunt humans, however, authorities warn all people on the water to keep their distance. Scientists hope that with more tagging, patterns and preferences of these big predators will help in keeping people safely out of hunting territory.

Two great white sharks were spotted off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts in recent days, it was reported.

George Breen, a shark hunter, spotted two sharks during a survey flight last week, seeing one shark just a half-mile from the shore and another located 50 yards from land, according to the Boston Herald.

“He was a big one and he was chasing seals,” said Breen, referring to an approximately 16-foot-long shark.

Apparently one of the sharks was again spotted by a photographer on Saturday, according to WCVB television.

The sharks are two of eight great whites that have been tagged in the past several years.

Authorities in Chatham, Mass., have told people to keep a distance from the sharks, which hunt seals.

In 2011, there were 35 great white sightings off Cape Cod.

“The more tags we put out, hopefully the more we will be able to start seeing patterns and preferences in what these sharks like, and where they like to be,” biologist John Chisholm told MyFoxBoston.com.
