Twisted Season 2 Renewal? ABC Family Show Not Renewed Yet; Petition Tries to Ward Off Cancellation

Twisted on ABC Family attracted a number of fans with its first season but the show may not be renewed.

It was already a telling sign that the show wasn’t renewed before or shortly after the season finale, and the prolonged silence doesn’t bode well.

Then again, a definitive cancellation hasn’t happened either.

Twisted started out without a full season, but was picked up on July 30, 2013.

Showrunner Chuck Pratt Jr. previously told TVLine that despite the series not being renewed yet he remains hopeful. “It’s totally up to ABC Family to say ‘Do a cliffhanger’ or ‘Don’t do a cliffhanger,’” he explained. “Nobody told us to put on the breaks, or wrap it up, so there’s always a chance we'll come back.”

But Bustle notes that things aren’t looking good for the series, principally due to the low ratings.

“The show ended its run with an average of 1.29 million viewers, the same ratings that led to Ravenswood, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars spinoff, being cancelled. The similarly toned The Lying Game was cancelled after an average of 1.27 million viewers tuned in,” it said.

“Given the low ratings, Twisted is definitely on the chopping block and it doesn’t seem like ABC Family is in the business of saving low-rated mysteries. Pretty Little Liars is still going strong in the ratings, after all, and will be sticking around for a 6th and 7th season.”

“Unfortunately, with those ratings ABC Family doesn’t have a real reason to bring back Twisted—even if fans really want a renewal. Let’s hope that Twisted gets a second life on Netflix or Hulu… because it doesn’t look like ABC Family cares anymore,” it added.

The petition from fans to renew Twisted has garnered 7,310 signatures, but grinded to a halt three months ago. 

“I love this show. It’s a show of twists and turns and left off at a great...GREAT turn. Jack and Whitney might be evil. Charlie is Jo half brother. Danny and Jo might actually finally become a couple. What will happen with Jack and Karen or Whitney and Lacey?? Is it true that Whitney’s mom’s boy toy came onto her? What is Whitney lying about?? Everything we need to find out about is in S2. I don’t want another one of my favorite shows cancelled, like Ravenswood!!!” said one signee.

Added another: “This is one of the best shows that ABC Family ever had.”
