The third installment of the Hobbit, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” may or may not include Samwise Gamgee and other characters from the original trilogy.
Sean Astin, who played Gamgee, told the blog Nuke the Fridge back in November that Peter Jackson hadn’t contacted him about having a cameo in the film.
“So, the answer is, no, but I would love to return to Middle-earth,” he said.
The way Astin would appear in the film if it did happen would probably be as Hamfast, Gamgee’s father.
That would be similar as to how Luke Evans played Bard, but also Bard’s ancestor Girion of Dale (in a heavy costume).
