The Fosters on ABC Family has its summer finale on August 18, and will then take a break before returning in a couple months.

The network hasn’t announced when exactly the show will return, but last season the break ended on January 13, giving a rough estimate of when it will return this time around.

In addition, the number of episodes hasn’t been pinned down yet.The first season had 21 episodes, 10 of which aired before the break. Episode 10 of season 2 is airing on Monday night, so this season very well could have 21 episodes again.

After the show returns from the break, there should be no other breaks for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, there hasn’t been any news as of yet concerning the renewal or cancellation of the show. But the ratings haven’t dropped too much from season 1, so things look good for a renewal for now.

See a description of the midseason finale, Someone’s Little Sister, below.

“In an effort to help Rita with a dilemma involving Girls United, Callie calls in a favor from her wealthy biological father, Robert Quinn. But an unexpected betrayal threatens to derail the new bond she’s forging with the Quinns,” it said.

“Meanwhile, the pressure Connor faces from his father to end his friendship with Jude intensifies and leads Lena to make a life-changing decision. The tension mounts between Brandon and Lou, despite their bandmate Mat’s warnings against drama. And a visit with someone from his past makes Jesus see his relationship with Hayley in a whole new light.”
