PITTSBURGH—Sandy Hall, a reading specialist, was among the audience at Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center for the Shen Yun Performing Arts Tour Company performance on Feb. 16.

Shen Yun “is very different, it’s colorful, and the music is absolutely beautiful,” Ms. Hall said. “And, the dancing is unbelievable, so I am enjoying it.”

The New York–based Shen Yun brings to life true traditional Chinese culture through its trademark colorful costumes, original orchestral music which combines classical Western and Chinese instruments as well as award-winning vocal soloists. This traditional culture was almost destroyed by years of communist rule particularly the Cultural Revolution.

The mission of Shen Yun is to revitalize this 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture through the arts.

Mrs. Hall also enjoyed the operatic voices. The Shen Yun vocal soloists are unparalleled in their ability to “grasp the highly difficult technical requirements of bel canto operatic singing while retaining the proper Chinese articulation and diction,” according to the Shen Yun website.

These lyrics of these songs are original and “have been fondly received and appreciated the world over,” the website states.
