After rumors and whispers for weeks, Motorola confirmed an updated Moto E smartphone Wednesday.

Motorola just launched two high-end Android handsets, including the Droid Turbo and the Nexus 6 — the latter in partnership with Google — but the company isn’t done releasing hot Android devices. Droid Forums has learned that Motorola is developing an even better Nexus 6 version, and it will be sold as a Droid-branded device.

Honestly, we do not know how to call this – maybe surprising, because it is, but Motorola will release the successor of the Moto 360 smartwatch much sooner than expected – which is this winter. There’s clearly no reason to do so as the Moto 360 is currently the most popular smartwatch on the market and it sells like hot cakes, creating a serious shortage, but we assume that the upcoming second generation will have some new features worth issuing it.

You may not realize this but the smartphone in your pocket is a computer of its own – it has a processor, RAM memory, then some internal memory, a video chip and finally a display. All this hardware is run by software, created by humans and as we know humans tend to make mistakes. So get ready to find a bug or two here and there.

Let’s get this out of the way: the Droid Turbo is a serious smartphone when it comes to its closely related cousins: the Moto X and Nexus 6. Gone are the curvaceous, sleek grooves which are replaced by a flatter form and tougher materials. Not that this is bad at all, the Kevlar option is one of the coolest looking phones I’ve ever seen.

Every year hundreds of new smartphones reach the market but only some of them can be classified as high-end devices that are worth noting. This year has not been much different – we got the Samsung Galaxy S5, Apple’s iPhone 6 and of course Motorola’s excellent Droid Turbo smartphone.

Motorola last year showed the world that you didn’t need to have the highest possible specs to create a really decent phone. Last year’s Moto X was behind the rest of the pack spec wise and it offered a really good package, this year’s model they’ve increased the specs and as such it’s now up there with the other flagships.

After months of rumors, it’s finally here - the DROID Turbo. This handset will be Verizon’s flagship Android device for 2014 and will have some of the best hardware that is currently available. But more importantly, Motorola claims that it will last up to two days on a single charge with normal use.

Lenovo’s multibillion dollar purchase of Motorola follows a recent trend, and a new directive by Chinese authorities, to purchase foreign companies in order to build the brands of China’s own state-run companies. The recent purchase could also bring new cyberthreats to Motorola devices built by Lenovo.

Word on the street is that Asus and Motorola are in and Samsung and LG are out of Google’s Nexus program.

Motorola Mobility and its parent Google are likely to lose a patent dispute in Germany that could force it to shut down its Google Maps service in an extreme case. A final decision by the court in Munich is expected in May, but observers believe that as things stand now, the judge will rule in Microsoft’s favor.
