COSTA MESA, Calif.—Entrepreneur Lowell Way attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on March 1 and commented how beautiful the performance was.

“The beauty part and the stories are great and very representative of the true nature of the Chinese people from my experience,” Mr. Way said, adding that he enjoyed every piece. “All of them, every one of them. They’re all perfect.

“It’s just been always been sad to me what the Chinese Communist Party has done to China given all the potential that it has: all the art, and culture, and beauty, and wonderful people.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the world, through music and dance, “China before communism.”

“I can see how the origin of a lot of gymnastics came from traditional Chinese dance,” Lowell said. “It’s just unbelievable that it’s that old. It’s great, and the athletics are just incredible.”

Unfortunately, this is not seen in China. “I just wish you'd see some kind of cultural contribution to the world that would come out of China now, but it doesn’t because of the Chinese Communist Party. It’s sad,” he said.

As an entrepreneur, Mr. Way found similarities between Chinese and Americans. “I think there’s a lot in common with the Chinese people and the desire for being entrepreneurs, and owning and running businesses, and creative ways of making a living. So it’s really terrific.”

Mr. Way’s current focus is on early childhood education. He previously had a hardware sporting goods business and worked with factories in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. “I’ve been [to Asia] 36 times.”

During his trips, Mr. Way made many friends. “All the friends that I made over there are cherished relationships and the people are what the Chinese Communist Party stifles there. It’s sad. It really is. It could be a lot better. The [Chinese] people have so much to contribute to life: economics, culture, and all the art, literature, music, and drama. All of it.”

He said Shen Yun should continue to bring traditional culture to the world. “I think they should just keep on forever. It’s nice to see something so wonderful that the CCP doesn’t like, so don’t give it up. Keep it going and just do more.”

Mr. Way saw an appreciation of a divine culture in the show and during his trips to Asia. “I see that in the people that I did business with over there, and in the cultural events and theater that I went to when I was over there. It all  comes from above. It really does.”

“It’s making me very happy. Thank you. Thank you so much.”
