PHOENIX, Ariz.---Jill Brimhall, owner and stylist at Luxxi Salon, was thoroughly enchanted by the performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Orpheum Theatre on Friday night, April 1.

“I thought it had a beautiful message.” said Ms. Brimhall. She was very articulate of her feelings: “I felt a love, a compassion towards all mankind.”

“It was very tastefully done and very tactfully conveyed.”

Ms. Brimhall thought the performance had a message of peace, and a reminder of the importance of culture.

Shen Yun programs draw upon five millennium of Chinese civilization to present principles such as benevolence and justice, propriety and wisdom, respect for the heavens, and divine retribution---values once at the core of Chinese culture.

As the website explains, Shen Yun performance features sophisticated dance techniques, an orchestra joining instruments from both the East and West, beautiful costumes, and a stunning back drop.

She spoke highly about the production.

“Their attires were very respectful of the body and [how] they adorned their bodies. It was just an extension of their soul. It was beautiful,” she said of the costumes.

And of the orchestra, “I loved the ancient instruments, and the way they combined it with the Western music. It was very comforting, peaceful and very healing. It felt refreshing to hear this type of music and see this performance.”

“The whole compilation and the arrangement were wonderful,” she said.

Ms. Brimhall said she realized how important it is to “remember our culture, remember where we came from, and remember our Creator.”

She was deeply contemplative about the story of Falun Dafa practitioners staying firm in their belief. The spiritual meditation practice is currently persecuted in China, though it is practiced all over the world. It teaches truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, which was shown in one of the story-based dances.

“When the Creator came from the heavens,  his presence was very humbling. It made me feel very reflective and introspective about the people of China, what they’ve endured, their strong faith and belief.”
