The Prostate Cancer Foundation is receiving thousands of dollars in donations from users on the Reddit forum dubbed “The Fappening.”
The subreddit is dedicated to news and images from the massive celebrity pictures leak.
Users on the subreddit have set up a page on the foundation’s website for other users to donate money to the foundation.
“Let’s make this a worthwhile endevour. Jennifer Lawrence has donated to help cure prostate cancer, the least we can do is follow suit for helping us maintain our long-term health by donating. By the hero The Fappening deserves!” wrote the Reddit user who started the trend.
Over $6,000 have been donated so far, making the group the top fundraiser for the PCF’s Safeway Foundation $1 Million Matching Grant Challenge.
The foundation says that it’s the leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating prostate cancer research globally.
Dr. Isla Garraway emphasized earlier this year that donations are needed to fuel research. “Without the funds to do research, we won’t have the next generation of researchers,” she said.
