CHINA—On July 11, pollution and extreme hot weather caused the sudden death of over 100,000 kilograms (220,000 pounds) of fish in Guanqiao Lake, Donghu, Wuhan city. Eight fishing boats were collecting as much of the dead fish as they could to prevent the further deterioration of the water quality.
According to local official, the water body of the lake is over nutrient and the authority has banned fishery in the lake, but local residents just ignored the regulation.
However, local residents said the pollution issue has a long history. Although the local government has sent people to collect rubbish and spread medicine in the water, it did not solve the problems from the root—several sewage discharge outlets along the lake.
