Barack Obama, a Bombay cat, and an American Shorthair cat representing John McCain, will be politicking for the election-year title of “Purr-fect President” along with the hundreds of cats competing for the coveted Best in Show title at the Cat Fanciers’ Association 2008 CFA-IAMS Cat Championship at Madison Square Garden, Saturday & Sunday, October 18 & 19, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

In addition to more than 40 CFA-recognized cat breeds (including Siamese, Maine Coon, Sphynx, and Persian), this year’s show presents Rizzo, a rescued NJ shelter cat and member of the Iams Trained Cats, who perform Olympic-style feats; the Feline Agility Competition, which challenges cats to navigate a series of tunnels and mazes in the fastest time possible; and New York’s Largest Feline Shopping Mall, with dozens of vendors offering feline-centric wares.

And in the spirit of CFA’s stated mission – to promote the welfare of ALL cats, not just purebreds – the popular Adopt-A-Cat event is back this year, with 16+ shelters and rescue organizations from NYC’s Mayor’s Alliance for Animals offering show attendees the chance to bring home a furry friend of their own. CFA is also working closely with Iams in their “Home For The Holidays” campaign, which aims to adopt a million shelter cats into permanent homes nationwide this holiday season.

Information about this year’s show and CFA can be found on the Web at www.cfa.org.
