HOT SPRINGS, Ark.—A neighbor has testified at trial that he found an Arkansas judge sitting in his yard, cradling his 18-month-old son and saying he had killed the boy.

Garland County Circuit Court Judge Wade Naramore is charged with negligent homicide in the death of his son, Thomas, who perished in a hot car in July 2015. Naramore has pleaded not guilty.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Gerald Keith testified Tuesday that he found Naramore sitting in the yard, holding his son. Keith said he tried to cool the boy with a cold shower.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Sgt. Kenny Keizer testified that he found Naramore “wailing, pacing ... and crying.”

Naramore faces up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine if convicted.
