A discovery made by an archaeologist in Bosnia has the scientific community up in arms. The object is a large, round rock, and though there are no questions about what it is, how the spherical stone came into being is another matter, reports ABC News.

Sam Osmanagich, who found the 30-or-so ton ball near a Bosnian village, is confident the form was crafted by a long gone ancient civilization, and a rather capable one at that. However, other experts in the field see nature as the creative force behind the orb.

Based on precedent alone, either camp could well be right. Similar formations in Costa Rica have proven to be the work of human hands, while many found in Mexico have been declared products of the Earth’s natural processes.
