MSNBC deleted a tweet on Wednesday night about conservatives supposedly not liking a controversial Cheerios commercial that features a biracial family.

Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,” the tweet read.

A little while later the network apologized for the tweet, then deleted it.

“Earlier, this account tweeted an offensive line about the new Cheerios ad. We deeply regret it. It does not reflect the position of msnbc,” it said.

A minute later, it added: “We are deleting the earlier offensive tweet. It does not reflect msnbc’s position and we apologize.”

People were not happy about the tweet, with scores of people lambasting the liberal network and calling for whoever posted and approved the original tweet to get fired.

“Whomever tweeted and approved that tweet should be identified and fired by @MSNBC. IT WAS APPROVED BY SOMEBODY,” said one Twitter user.

“Who in their right mind approved of such a Tweet. What happened to standards? No wonder your ratings are tanking,” said another.

“LOL! MSNBC claims its conservative-smearing tweet ‘isn’t who we are,'” said another.
