Mother Who Strangled Her Daughter Charged With Murder
It was the eve of her fifth birthday, and Emily Rose Perrin was playing with her dolls.
Suddenly, her mother, who was apparently on drugs, pounced and started to suffocate her, pressing on her nose and mouth while she had a dog leash in her hands.
When her mother’s roommate walked in on them, Emily’s mother made a bizarre statement.
“Jesus came along with the dark angels,” the mother told a police officer who tried to perform CPR on Emily, the St. Louis Dispatch reports.
This is the account of what happened in court documents, and authorities have charged Emily’s mother, Mary B. Lockett, with first-degree murder.

Lockett remains in jail, with bail set at $1 million.
Her roommate, Eric L. Kirk, said that he had gone out to purchase marijuana earlier that day, and had seen Lockett smoking marijuana before he left.
When he came back 15 minutes later, he saw Lockett on top of her daughter. Kirk said he pulled her off and called the police.
When the police arrived, Emily was no longer breathing, and Kirk had to restrain her mother.
“Lockett was going crazy inside the residence and saying she was going to kill herself,” the police report said.
Lockett also made statements about a “sword,” and police found a metal sword in her Dodge truck.
In a raid on her home, police found medication for schizophrenia, depression and anxiety.
The Illinois Department of Child Services said that it had been working with Lockett since 2015, but said that she had never been violent with her children before.
Don Carpenter, Emily’s cousin, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral.
