A 21-year-old student was shot and killed at Mississippi State University, officials said on Sunday.
Mark Keenum, the president of the college, released a statement, which said the killing was an isolated incident and that other students are not in danger.
The statement identified John Sanderson as the student who was killed on Saturday night in his dorm and was the first to be shot on the campus. Keenum, however, did not say who the shooter was or if they even found the shooter.
“This is the first time in our school’s history that such a tragic incident has occurred involving a student being shot on campus,” Keenum said. ” Our campus is known as a safe place, and I want to assure students, parents, faculty, and staff that it continues to be safe.”
Keenum said the university’s police have opened an investigation into the matter and “are actively following all leads.”
