Microsoft Releases First Update for the January Technical Preview of Windows 10

Microsoft has just released the January Technical Preview of Windows 10 and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can do so by following our instructions. As always we do not recommend you to install it on your main machine, so use VirtualBox or VMware Player, as there are some known issues that make this build a bit problematic for day-to-day use.

Microsoft has just released the January Technical Preview of Windows 10 and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can do so by following our instructions. As always we do not recommend you to install it on your main machine, so use VirtualBox or VMware Player, as there are some known issues that make this build a bit problematic for day-to-day use.

For those of you who have already downloaded the build, Microsoft has also released the first update that should help fix a number of issues, especially for people who installed the Technical Preview on their main PCs. 

Here’s the full list of improvements and fixes:

  1. Reliability improvements to prevent some system crashes in explorer.exe
  2. Fixes an issue that could cause a deleted app to be unintentionally reinstalled
  3. Increased power efficiency to extend battery life
  4. Reliability improvements for virtual machine live migrations
  5. Performance improvements for Internet Explorer
  6. Fixes an issue that could cause pending Windows Updates to be incorrectly reported in the update history
  7. Fixes an issue that could cause the Start Menu to be improperly registered and fail to launch
  8. Fixes an issue that could cause random pixelation on the screen when using Remote Desktop Client
