Meghan McCain will be guest-hosting The View next week and may join the panel full-time in the future.

Changes are underway for the panel, including the return of Rosie O-Donnell, who will be re-joining Whoopi Goldberg. Sherri Shephard and Jenny McCarthy left the panel and need replacements.

The Wrap, citing a source that McCain is guest-hosting, said that “It’s hard not to see the appearance as a tryout for McCain.”

McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain, is a co-host of Pivot’s “TakePart Live.” It’s not clear whether she could leave the show.

She’s a conservative who would fill the role previously held by Elisabeth Hasselback.

Sarah Palin has suggested that she could fill the role but doesn’t seem under consideration.

Hasselback made waves by slamming O'Donnell’s return to the show.

The 18th season of The View is slated to start on September 15.

Goldberg has said that whoever comes onto the show will act like grown women.

“I will do my best to respect the audience, to make sure that we bring you ‘The View’ that Barbara Walters wanted you to have,” she said.
