Longmire getting cancelled has prompted a widespread response, with many fans starting to boycott A&E in response.

The Longmire Posse, a fan page for the show, started efforts to get a renewal--either from the network or from another network.

The posse has started a petition for viewers to sign.

“Longmire had been the highest rated scripted drama, & the 2nd highest rated program overall, on the A&E network when they announced its cancellation after its 3rd season finished with a major cliffhanger! One of the reasons the network cited for their cancellation of Longmire, was the median age of its viewers being 60 years old, did not allow the network to charge the maximum fee per commercial minute that the younger demographic would,” it said.

“In other words, in spite of evidence to the contrary, they viewed their audience as being disposable. The studio & the producers of Longmire, have since been marketing the show to secure a more deserving network.”

“By signing this petition - you pledge to follow Longmire to whichever network is lucky enough to get this exceptional TV show and its 5.6 million viewers!” it added.

Apparently Globe magazine columnist Debbie Reynolds has weighed in on the topic in the upcoming October 27 edition, telling fans to boycott A&E. “Vote with your remotes!” she said.

She said that ratings are very important, and the best way to get A&E to listen is to stop watching any of the network’s programs.

Highlight Hollywood reports that the Longmire Posse’s efforts are working.

“Industry insiders are paying attention even more to the this exciting and popular series, that has not only almost 6-million loyal viewers, but viewers who show that they are willing to support the network or online streaming company that is smart enough to pick it up,” it reported.

Warner Horizon, the studio behind Longmire, has been shopping the show elsewhere after its cancellation, reported Deadline

“We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling,” A&E said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”
